The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world.

Our organization was founded on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans and must be protected under the law. Headquartered in New York City, the ASPCA maintains a strong local presence, and with programs that extend our anti-cruelty mission across the country, we are recognized as a national animal welfare organization. We are a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and are proud to boast more than 2 million supporters across the country.

The ASPCA’s mission, as stated by founder Henry Bergh in 1866, is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.”

The purpose of the Society is to promote humanity and kindness, and to prevent cruelty to man and animals, by information, statistics, appropriate literature, and by all lawful means which they may deem wise and best, and by assisting in prosecution of crimes of a cruel and inhumane nature; and generally to encourage justice and humanity and to discourage injustice and inhumanity.

We fight the big fights to end suffering for all animals. Together with millions of supporters, we take on puppy mills, factory farms, trophy hunts, animal testing and other cruel industries. With our affiliates, we rescue and care for thousands of animals every year through our animal rescue team’s work and other hands-on animal care services. FeralCare founders have more than a decade of experience in aiding feral cat colonies. Our non-profit, all-volunteer organization formed in response to the dramatic rise in the stray and feral cat population throughout Connecticut. This population explosion has resulted in the malnutrition and death of countless animals, as well as a substantial increase in the number of cats and kittens requiring care and adoption. Our Board of Directors is comprised of professionals representing the fields of Urban Revitalization, Animal Rescue, Veterinary Medicine, Community Advocacy, and Communications, who are in turn supported by a strong core of volunteers. 

The Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic is the next phase of FeralCare's goal to end euthanasia of unwanted litters of companion cats and dogs. After six years of monthly spay/neuter clinics for feral and stray cats only, FeralCare's only way to make a huge difference in our area was to create a permanent weekday facility to perform affordable spay/neuter surgeries for the half million cats and dogs that reside just in Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Stratford Cat Project, Inc. (SCP) is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to reducing the feral cat population and rescuing the homeless and abandoned cats of Stratford. They are not a shelter and they depend solely on private donations and fundraising.
